2 Breach of Contract Cases in the News: Paris Hilton, Taylor Lautner

Two recent celebrity stories in the news involve breach of contract lawsuits. One lawsuit was brought against hotel heiress Paris Hilton for allegedly failing to promote and wear a company's hair extensions as she had agreed to do. On the other side of the coin, 'Twilight' star Taylor Lautner recently settled a lawsuit that he filed against an RV dealership for failing to deliver a coach on time to the set of the movie, "Abduction," in June.

Earlier this month, Lautner settled the lawsuit for $40,000. Lautner had claimed that the dealership, McMahon RV of California, failed to deliver a $300,000 coach as promised. The owner of the dealership, Brent McMahon, had offered to compete in a push-up competition against Lautner in order to settle the lawsuit, but that did not happen. Lautner has said he will donate the settlement to a children's charity, the Lollipop Theater Network.

The Hilton case is still ongoing with a possible countersuit by the heiress in the works. Hairtech International Inc. filed the lawsuit against Hilton in August seeking $35 million in damages. The company claims that Hilton failed to wear and promote hair extensions as she had promised. They also claim that Hilton cost them at least $6.6 million for failing to attend a launch party in 2007.

Hilton missed the appearance because she was in jail for charges related to reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. Hilton's attorneys have said that there is no merit to Hairtech's claims and that they are looking into possibly filing a countersuit. It is yet to be seen whether the case will go to trial. Hilton is currently facing other legal troubles after being arrested recently in Las Vegas and charged with cocaine possession.
