Singer Taylor Swift Sued for Breach of Contract

On Behalf of | Nov 5, 2010 | Breach Of Contract |

Singer Taylor Swift’s new album, “Speak Now,” was released on October 25th. The album has already sold more than one million copies and it is enjoying success on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Meanwhile, Swift’s former manager wants a piece of her success. According to CBS News, her former manager, Dan Dymtrow, is suing Swift for breach of contract, claiming that he is owed millions of dollars in commissions.

Dymtrow and Taylor Swift and her family have been fighting over the matter since 2007. Dymtrow signed the now twenty-year-old Swift when she was fourteen. He says that he helped build her career, but that the Swifts purposely ditched him before they would have to start paying him commissions on Swift’s earnings. Dymtrow says he is owed at least five to ten percent commissions on Swift’s sales.

Taylor Swift’s attorney says that Dymtrow did not complete the paperwork that was essential for him to do if he wanted to collect any royalties on Swift’s sales. Dymtrow’s original lawsuit claimed breach of contract because he was paid $10,000 by the Swifts for his help starting her career in the music business, which he felt was much below what he was owed.
